Whether or not PUBG can continue this upward trend remains to be seen, but things are looking bright for the battle royale game. Not to mention the game recently launched on the PS4 as well, growing its potential audience considerably. Also, developer PUBG Corp announced test servers were live for the new Vikendi map a few weeks ago during The Game Awards, giving players good reason to jump back in to try out the new location. Over 860,440 people are currently participating in PUBG Mobile. Since January however, things started to wind down, and just last month PUBG failed to surpass the 1 million players peak, topping out at just under 900,000 users.īut what reason could there be for people to suddenly want to jump back into PUBG? For starters, many who converted over to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode may have had their fill and are wanting to give PUBG another chance. And while Fortnite arrived on the battle royale scene by following PUBG, it's now the latter that's learning from the former: PUBG copied Fortnite's Battle Pass customisation unlocks on both desktop and mobile last week. The game leads with YouTube viewers, having garnered over 5 billion views in April and grossed over $300 million in the same month. On the portable front, PUBG is on Android and iOS, while Fortnite is available on iOS and Nintendo Switch, where it racked up 2 million downloads in less than a day.įortnite's success likely contributed to PUBG's fall on PC. China remains one of the leading PUBG playing countries despite state bans. Even so, several players still seek pleasure in playing PUBG. Official stats from the Steam website currently list the PUBG player count around 418,090, though the peak player count for today already hit 625,564. Meanwhile, PUBG's biggest battle royale competitor, Fortnite, is available on all three: PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Average player count has been falling every month too, having gone from 1.58 million in January to 0.8 million this month. SteamCharts shows that PUBG is now down to a peak of 1.75 million players in the last month, which represents a drop of 46 percent from its peak of 3.23 million players back in January this year. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has lost nearly half its Steam player base since its January peak, according to data provided by video game tracking sites.
